What will man be like in the future — in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today. For man is slowly changing all the time.Let us take an example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on the average, men are about three inches taller.(3) Five hundred years is a relatively(相对地) short period of time, so we may suppose that man will continue to grow taller.Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain's capacity(容量.) As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more and finally we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change too. The head, especially the forehead, will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are being used too much. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a
very long period of time it is likely that man's eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we tend (有…的趋势) to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive(敏感的)because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both men and women are probably to be hairless!(4)Perhaps, all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive (有吸引力的) person to look at! This may well be true. All
the same, besides these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and feelings similar to our own.

ALL great basketball players
have something that makes them stand out(与众不同). Hitting three pointers is the strong point of Utah Jazz forward
(前锋) Kyle Korward.
(3)The 27-year-old has again been showing his ice cool, this time in the NBA playoffs (季后赛). His three pointers have given the Jazz a 3-2 lead in the series over the Rockets. Korver joined the Jazz in
the middle of the season. He has been playing brilliantly ever since. His three-point success rate(成功率) is now 40 percent. This has won him an army of Jazz fans.
“He has been one of the most quickly embraced (拥抱) players I have ever seen,” said, Jazz Team President, Randy Rigby.
Korver moved from California to Iowa at the age 12. He developed his style of playing there. He had few chances to play in any leagues, so he practiced shooting alone day and night.“Everybody learns the basics(基本功), either from their coaches or by themselves,” Korver said. “These basics are the biggest reason I have a place in this league.”
(4)Korver’s great jump shot alone would probably be enough to make him stand out in any NBA town.but in Salt Lake City, a small city in the middle of the United States, Korver’s popularity (受欢迎程度) runs even deeper. How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy? Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you’re around other people. Experts have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
(3)It’s OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy
sometimes. It’s just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some are afraid of meeting new people,
