Your child's ability to understand death—and your approach to discussing it—will vary according to your child's age. Each child is unique, but here are some rough guidelines to keep in mind.

Until kids are about 5 or 6 years old, their view of the world is very literal(字面意思的). So it's a good idea to explain the death in terms that are basic and exact. If the person was ill or elderly, for example, you might explain that the person's body wasn't working any more and the doctors couldn't fix it. If the person dies suddenly,

like in an accident, you might explain what happened ------that because of this very sad event, the person's body stopped working. You may have to explain that \

Kids often have a hard time understanding that all people and living things eventually die, and that once a person dies, it's final and that person isn't coming back. So even after you've gone through this explanation, your child may continue to ask where the person is or when the person is returning. Continue to calmly repeat, in concrete terms, that the person has died and can't come back, and that your child won't be seeing him or her again. Avoid using euphemisms(委婉语), like telling your child that the person who died just “went away” “or “went to sleep” or even that your family “lost” the person. Because young kids think so literally, such phrases might make your child afraid to go to sleep or fearful whenever someone goes away.

For the same reasons, remember that your child's questions may sound much deeper than they actually are. For example, a 5-year-old child who asks where a person who died is now probably isn't asking whether there's an afterlife. Rather, the child might be satisfied hearing that the person who died is now in the cemetery(墓地). 64.What’s the probable meaning of the given word “concrete” in the 3rd paragraph? A. complicated. B. exact. C. interesting. D. steady. 65.What can we know from the passage?

A. You’d better explain the death to the kids in simple and basic words.

B. Little children can have a better understanding of the phrases like “went away”. C. Children may understand the phrases “went to sleep” after explanation. D. Kids may probably be not fearful if your explanation is off the point. 66.What’s the main idea of the passage?

A. Some simple instructions of the understanding of death. B. The formation of children’s view of the world.

C. How to help kids understand “death” using euphemisms . D. The different terms about the word “death”. 67. What can be inferred from the passage?

A. Children’s view of the world isn’t very literal until kids are about 5 or 6 years old. B. Children’s understanding of the death will be better when they are getting older. C. “went away”, “went to sleep” and “lost” are euphemisms referred to death.

On New Year's Eve, I was traveling from Sharm el-Sheikh, where I had been working as a crew, to Cairo on the night bus. The journey usually took about 10 hours. Just south of Ras Sudr, an hour or so before Suez, the bus drove head-on into the back of a parked truck.

Such an accident on this road is not uncommon. Trucks park for the night simply by stopping on the side of the road. The desert road is unlit and the trucks have no markers.

Anyway, our bus (fortunately, I was sitting near the back) dashed off the road and bounced down a 10-foot bank into a stone-lined pipe. Luckily, we didn't turn over. I was afraid we would burn, as about 15 of us were trapped in the back of the bus, unable to open the escape window. Of course we didn't burn.

We got out, eventually, and being first-aid trained and having a set of first-aid tools, I steeled myself(下决心应付)and went to the front of the bus to see if there was anything I could do. My companion had a briefcase with $1,000 in it, so he stayed with that.

There were only two seriously injured. One man lost an eye, and another had two broken legs. An Irish guy (who also had a first-aid kit) and I helped get them out. A lot of people were shocked, so along with other passengers, we shared our sleeping bags, wrapped people up and helped get a fire going. I don't know what happened to the driver of the truck who had been asleep.

Pregnant women can safely drink coffee as caffeine does not affect their unborn baby, according to a new study.

Researchers found no evidence of a link between prematurity (早产), birth weight and the amount of caffeine consumed by mothers-to-be. Previous studies suggested caffeine might harm unborn babies as it stays in the system longer in pregnant women, passing easily to a growing baby. Health officials have warned that a high caffeine intake could affect birth weight or the chance of having a miscarriage (流产).

Pregnant women are advised against drinking more than four cups of coffee a day or six cups of tea. The study, by the University of Aarhus in Denmark, recruited (招募) more than 1,000 women before they were 20 weeks' pregnant, who drank at least three cups of coffee a day. The group was split into two, with 568 women drinking ordinary instant coffee and 629 drinking decaffeinated (脱咖啡因的咖啡).

The authors then monitored the birth weight of 1,150 newborn babies and the length of pregnancy for the babies. The study, published by the British Medical Journal, found no significant differences between the two groups for birth weight or length of pregnancy. The researchers concluded that a moderate reduction in caffeine intake in the second half of pregnancy had no effect on the outcome. The women were not told what type of coffee they were drinking, and the research was adjusted to take into account factors such as age, weight and whether the women smoked.

When the adjustments were made, the average weight of babies born to women in the decaffeinated group was a mere 16g higher than those born to women in the caffeinated group, the study said.

The average difference in the length of pregnancy was less than two days. A spokesman for the British Coffee Association said, “This new study is very interesting and supports the consistent (一致的) advice given that pregnant women should stick to a safe upper limit - in line with guidance issued by the Food Standards Agency. This equals three cups of brewed, or four cups of instant coffee.” 72. From the passage we know that ________.

A. There is obvious connection between prematurity and the amount of caffeine intake by mothers-to-be B. Previous researchers held the belief that pregnant women’s caffeine intake could cause birth problems C. Pregnant women are advised to drink as much coffee and tea as possible

D. The study was conducted among over 1,000 women after they were 20 weeks’ pregnant 73. The result of the new study shows that ________.
