1 签证类型和方式
1.1 准备AV签证
适合访问学者的签证有两种，一种是Academic Visitor（AV）签证，一种是T5签证。对于绝大多数访问学者来说，应该优选AV签证，原因为：
? T5签证为临时工作许可签证，你可以从英国拿报酬。然而事实上我们
大部分人是根本不拿他们钱的。
? T5签证需要英国学校为你提供COS号，即经济担保。相当于你又要多
办道手续，多麻烦对方一次。
? T5签证费用贵，要几千，但是AV签证费只要约900人民币。虽然国家
可能会给你报销签证费，但是如果你是AV签证，你的家属就可以理所当然申请Academic Dependant签证，签证费和AV一样便宜，这个可没人给你报销，能省则省。
当然，AV签证有它特殊的要求，这点在留服网站上有具体说明，无非是在邀请函中要特别注意，不能有work、study之类字眼，这些字眼意味着你应当办理工作签证或学习签证，最好指明从事独立研究，不参与英方正式项目。而且既然是学术访问，你得像个有学者的样子（对方得是学校，你工作单位应为学术机构，最好有高点的职称和学位）。
下面是引用留服对于AV签证的注意事项。但其中对于申请者副教授和博士学位的要求似乎不是必要的，因为群里有老师并不符合却照样签证通过。

1）谁应该申请“访问学者”类型签证？
按照英国相关政策规定，凡是以独立开展个人所从事的专业学术领域中的某个或某些研究课题为目的的公派访问学者，方可申请“访问学者”类别签证。申请“访问学者”类别签证的公派学者、研究人员、教师必须满足如下要求： ①单位准假并同意保留其工作职位 ②不得从英国邀请方收取报酬
③不准从事规定的学术活动以外的任何工作 ④不准填补英方的工作职位 ⑤在英国停留不得超过一年
⑥在访问结束后必须离开英国
⑦有足够的资金支付在英国及离开英国所需的费用 2）申请“访问学者”类型签证需要提交的材料。 （1）需向我处提交的材料： ①《公派留学人员基本情况表》。
②留学基金委出具的《同意派出函》复印件一份（特殊项目除外）。
③录取文件复印件一份。（如您是改派国别、延期派出、缩短在外留学期限等，还要提交留学基金委出具的相关文件复印件一份）
④JW108表第四联。（如果未使用，将空白表格退回即可；如果没有该表格，则不需提供）
（2）需向英国签证中心提交的材料：
①经过本人签名的有效护照原件及其首页和末页的复印件各一份。
②照片：近期白色背景彩色照片（照片尺寸要求横35mm,竖45mm）三张。 ③邀请信：邀请信原件和复印件各一份。（请留学人员同时自备一份复印件，已备出国后使用）
邀请信主要内容包括：邀请人姓名、单位、地址、电话号码；被邀请人姓名、单位、预定访问日期、停留期限、访问目的、经费来源以及Bench Fee的明确数额，如英方不需要Bench Fee也请在信中注明。
对申请“访问学者”（ACADEMIC VISITOR）类别签证的特别提醒：
A.英方邀请人在邀请信中一定要明确写明被邀请人的赴英身份，只能写为“ACADEMIC VISITOR”，而不能用“VISITING SCHOLAR”、“VISITING ACADEMIC”、“SPONSORED RESEARCHER”等称呼，同时也要绝对禁止使用“WORK”，“STUDY”等字眼。特别是要绝对禁止提到希望或愿意加入到英国邀请方已经或即将建立的“正式研究项目”（FORMAL RESEARCH PROJECT）中。
B.英方邀请人在邀请信中一定要详细说明被邀请人的个人赴英研究目的和计划，一定要强调被邀请人是从事独立性的研究。
C.英方邀请人在邀请信中最好能够详细说明被邀请人在其学术领域或工作中有突出的学术研究成就、专家地位等。
D.申请“访问学者”（ACADEMIC VISITOR）类别签证，邀请信中不能提及安排参加英国院校的课程学习，否则将被视为学生身份。
④提供单位回聘证明信原件一份及复印件两份。如果是尚未工作的学生，请提供就读院校证明原件一份及复印件两份。
⑤资金担保证明原件一份及复印件一份。国家全额资助留学人员申办签证的担保证明由中国留学服务中心统一提供。
⑥照会：由中国留学服务中心统一提供。

8月22日英国驻华使馆告知：申请访问学者类签证必须同时满足下列条件： 1、申请人工作单位与英国邀请单位均为教育机构（一般指大学） 2、申请人须已经取得博士学位，副教授及以上职称
1.2 家属携签
出去做访问学者这么久，家属总归要跟着出访一下的。可是有的人准备带孩子，有的人准备全家一起去，有的人家属还不知道能不能请到假??太多的不确定。到底应该是家属确定要去的日期计划后再给他们办理还是干脆和访问学者本人一起递签呢？我认为有条件的都应该全家一起递签，原因有：
? 虽然可能去的日期尚不能确切，但有一点是肯定的，那就是肯定去。这
样签证过了就不会浪费。
? 签证按次收费，一次签一年有效期最省钱。
? 签证为入境许可，是赋予了你权利，不是义务。你如果因为别的原因去
不了，谁也不能把你绑了去；但是你在签证有效期内随时想去就能去，而且是可以多次入境的。
? 即使有人只想带孩子去，但是你最好还是全家递签。否则你不但要准备
家属同意你单独带孩子出境的文书，还很有可能被以无精力照顾孩子为由拒签。全家递签这些问题都没有了，签证下来后你的伴侣其实可以不去的，多花一个人签证费也算是破财消灾。
至于什么是家属，他们定义为伴侣和18岁以下子女。所以不要试图为你的父母等其他人办这类签证，他们只能办GV签证，更不要说什么让父母来帮你照顾孩子这样的话。因为在英国人眼里，只有父母照顾孩子是天经地义的，爷爷奶奶照顾属于工作！你没有看错，他们认为爷爷奶奶照顾孙子属于被你雇佣来干活的，即使没有发工资也算！一旦你说爷爷奶奶来帮助照顾孩子，GV签证肯定不行了，因为这是不允许工作的，你得要给他们申请临时工作签证，那难度就大了。
最后，说一下签证类型在哪里选择。在visit——business visitor下面，Academic Visitor和Academic Denpendant都在里面。
2 办理流程
从拿到留学基金委的纸质材料（资助证明中英文版、协议书）开始，就可以陆续着手准备材料了。具体流程在留服网站都有。
当你把出访日期确定，精确到日以后，就开始走流程了，大体按以下顺序：
2.1 办理护照
到各地出入境管理局办理即可。 带上孩子，可以走绿色通道。
带上身份证、户口本，可以自己复印好，自己打印护照申请表（见附件，2014年5月又有新的表了，正反双面打印，填好但要空着签字栏），不然用他们提供
的基本上是1元/张。报备人员还要一个单位同意办理函，需要盖人事部门章。
2.2 办理单位手续
正规渠道出访，基本上单位都是一路绿灯。主要收获有： ? 拿到了单位给的出国任务批件红头文件，高大上的感觉；
? 单位还给邀请函上写了“同意出访”处长给签了字盖了章（需要办理“同
意派出函”的要用到）；
? 单位给出具了一份英文版证明，包括我在这里干了几年，什么职称，收
入多少，同意我出国一年云云，签字盖章。这个办理签证要用到。 ? 顺便帮2位同事开具了2份在职和收入证明。办理协议书公证时用。
2.3 办理留学基金委（CSC）手续
CSC的手续现在非常简单，一趟都可以不去，全都可以邮寄办理，以至于我都不知道CSC在哪。手续无非有：
? 同意派出函的办理。现在实现数据互联互通了，不需要拿纸质的了。主
要是查你是否有英语成绩和邀请函，因为我是申报时都已经提供的，所以拿到资助时里面就已经显示“不需要开具同意派出证明”。
? 协议书公证。一式六份都填好，现在CSC专门给各地公证处打电话，
要求六份全部公证，所以也别想什么只公证几份省钱了。协议书填写中有一个研修计划才给了一行，显然不能长篇大论了，就填“X年X月X日到X年X月X日赴XX大学从事XXX研究，学成后回国”。找2个同事做担保人，拿着人事处给开的收入证明，带上各自身份证及其复印件去公证处办理。几天后拿到公证书，邮寄一份给留学基金委了事，寄丢了不用怕反正你还有5份呢。过几天登陆平台看到这样就万事大吉：
? 缴纳保证金。访学一年的需要缴纳4万保证金，想活动手脚就去CSC
面交，我是懒所以就直接网银转账。他们的账号在网站上有，这个一定要亲自到官网上核对。转账后给他们填单子，他们就把收据寄过来了。这个《参考出国留学人员须知》，下面我摘录一下：
（3） 网银汇款 ①必须使用出国留学人员本人网银汇款，否则无法确认交款人姓名，从而影响留学人员缴存保证金事项，若由此影响到其出国行程，后果自负。 ②将保证金划转至以下账号： 开户名称：国家留学基金管理委员会 开户银行：交通银行北京阜外支行 账号：1100 6023 9018 1701 00887 22 ③请务必在备注与汇款用途一栏注明“留学人员（姓名）保证金及CSC学号”。 ④填写《出国留学人员交存保证金信息一览表》，格式如下： 出国留学人员交存保证金信息一览表 交款人姓名 留学国别 工作单位或 国内在读学校 身份证号码 联系电话 保证金数额 留学期限 通讯地址 CSC 学号（CSC 资格 证书编号） 邮编 汇款的网银账户 ⑤在《出国留学人员交存保证金信息一览表》的通讯地址处注明领取保证金的方式：本人或他人来取《保证金收款证明》的，请注明“自取保证金收款证明”字样，若委托他人来领取《保证金收款证明》的，领取人需出示“委托书”和身份证【“委托书”（一）格式见上图】；需要邮寄《保证金收款证明》的，请填写详细的通讯地址（提供确保能收到信件的邮寄地址）。 ⑥将网上银行转账成功并有汇款详细信息的页面截图打印后与《出国留学人员交存保证金信息一览表》一并传真至010-88395790；010-88393835。 ⑦派出身份为学生的还应传真有效学生身份证明（在读证明、有效学生证、应届毕业证）。 ⑧通过网银汇款的最迟应在离境前10-15天办理汇款手续，以确保顺利办理领取签证和机票等出国手续。 注意：留学人员需妥善保管《保证金收款证明》原件。在领取签证、出国机票前需向留学服务机构出示；回国提取保证金时需交回《保证金收款证明》原件。
2.4 办理留服手续
留服手续有三道，一是办理签证前，它给出具照会和经济担保，二是签证拿到后找它订机票，三是出国前，它给你机票和生活费。对于北京留服，其中只有领生活费时需要你跑一趟。
照会和经济担保。理论上多了一份资料，有助于签证通过，实际上可能未必有那么大作用。但350元的费用你始终逃不掉，如果你事先不办，等你领生活费的时候人家会说，交过350的可以直接来领了，没交过的去那边排队，交完钱再来这边领。本来临走前时间就紧张，别再因为排队最后在银行领不上钱那就亏大了。好在这玩意很好办，你通过网银或柜台给留服转400块钱（其中50块快递费），然后发个email附上你的材料就可以了，2~3天就能收到空白已经签过字盖过章的文件，你自己填就好了。这里是搬来的邮寄办理须知：
第1步、通过银行转账方式汇出办理出国手续费用： 户名：教育部留学服务中心
开户行：上海浦东发展银行北京亚运村支行 账号：8864291002000
特别提示：1、请务必在银行汇款单“附言”中注明：***赴**国手续费（如：丁一赴美国手续费），如果汇款信息不准确，会影响您的办理速度。2、如果您获得是基金委的全额资助，办理出国手续费350元，回邮服务费用50元，共计400元；如果您是基金委的“西部项目”资助的人员，您只需汇款50元回邮服务费。
第2步、请将所需材料通过电子邮件发到指定邮箱hmzhao@cscse.edu.cn(所有材料请以附件形式发送)，所需材料如下：
* 将第1步准备的汇款单回执复印，并在此复印件的空白处，打印您的回邮信息，包括：申请者，收件人，所去国别，通讯地址，邮编，联系电话等（请用A4纸4号字打印）。
* 公派留学人员基本情况表（您在中国留学网“公派留学”栏目上注册登记后产生的表格）
* 国家留学基金委录取文件（国家留学基金资助出国留学资格证书） * 外方邀请信
* 赴美国需提供DS-2019表

特别提示：赴英国联合培养博士生请在申办经济担保照会时在汇款单上注明签证类型（如T4、T5或AV）。
第3步、我们收到您的邮件并审核无误后，在2—3工作日内通过EMS将“经济担保”和“照会”原件寄给您。

领生活费。提前1~2天去领，如果周一的飞机，只能周五去办理了，这时候交过350块钱的就能少一道手续，记得带上那个受理凭证。值得一提的是那个国际旅行健康证，留学须知上说领生活费之前要交验的，但是听所有办过的人讲其实最后都没有查验。
2.5 在线办理签证
这个可是重头戏。 首先，英国在线签证网站： https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/
注册一个账号，就可以给自己办理，也能给家属办理。里面有些问题设计不合理，就凑合着答吧。我把我曾经遇到的和常被问到的问题贴出来。
问：填写内容大小写要注意什么？
答：正常填写，事实上最后打印出来的表格全部被转换成为了大写。 问：ISSUING AUTHORITY护照签发机构，输入不了那么多字符怎么办？ 答：那就填首字母缩写吧。
问：ARE YOU A NATIONAL OF THE COUNTRY IN WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING?
答：这时问你是否具有你现在所处国家的国籍，当时选YES。
问：WHAT IS THE MAIN ADDRESS AND CONTACT DETAILS OF WHERE YOU WILL BE STAYING WHILST IN THE UK?你在英国地址，四行都怎么填？
答：翻出你邀请函，外导的地址就可以，输入外导邮编，选择查找地址，可
以直接选好自动帮你填写。
问：TRAVEL HISTORY里面有没有陷阱？ 答：没有陷阱，都填NO吧。
问：IF WE NEED TO INTERVIEW YOU, WHAT LANGUAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO USE IN THE INTERVIEW?
答：English也行，Chinese也行，没人在意这个，事实上也没人给你面试。 问：配偶的护照号码，CURRENT PASSPORT OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT NUMBER，可是他没有办护照呢怎么办？
答：没有就填No，后面的出生日期出生地什么的就如实填写。 问：花费那一栏，到底怎么填？
答：这个没人较真，差不多合理就行了。基本上你的花费按照CSC给的12000英镑分配着填就行了，英国住房贵点，住宿费可以稍微多点生活费少点。我的贴上来（因为我家属去，额外准备了20万存款，所以总数加了20000磅）。

家属的花费，基本同主申请者相当，小孩的花费可以少一点。

答：就选standard appointment。Primetime可以选择到傍晚，但是要多花钱。
2.6 签证中心递交材料
由于要采集指纹和照相，所以必须所有申请人亲自到场，包括儿童。选择就近的签证中心带齐材料去就可。建议预约时间选早些，因为旺季的时候人会很多，你的预约时间只是允许你进大门，进了大门还要抽号排队呢，人多的话可就且等了。
2.7 签证处理时间和查询方式
根据英国政府官网给出的数据（见下表），访问学者12个月的签证处理时间大约为10~15工作日，注意这里是工作日，算上节假日，基本上在15天~21天。

现在没有在线查询方式了，只能通过电子邮件或者拨打电话询问。但在正常这个日期范围之内，没什么好问的，如果等待时间实在太长，可以访问以下网站发查询邮件或查找电话：

3 签证材料
公证问题。不少人问材料要不要公证，答案是英国签证所有文件都不需要公证。
翻译问题。移民局网站明确说明，所有中文文件必须附有英文翻译，有逻辑能力的人就不要再问这个要不要翻译那个要不要翻译这样的低级问题了。
翻译资质问题。很多人找了翻译公司盖章，或者找了有专八证书的人签字，这样当然都是可以的，问题是第一种要花钱，第二种要麻烦人。事实上访问学者完全可以自行翻译，这是签证中心的答复，签不签名都无所谓。我不想每张都签名，就另附了一页纸，打印内容如下，再签字：

材料的原件与否问题。许多人问材料原件怎么准备，主要是邀请函很多事扫描件，有的人拿彩色打印做原件。我想说没必要纠结这个问题，如果真的必须要原件，那彩色打印件也必然是不行的。事实上如果你是签证官，你会那么在意一份文件的原件与否吗？签证官看中的是文件证明的事实而不是文件的形式，即你被邀请了，有教授亲笔签名，这点复印件已经可以完全证明了。什么时候才要提供原件？只有你手头上本来顺手就有，或者移民局认为你提供了虚假文件要你提
供证据，或者起诉你了法院要认可证据，这些时候才要具有法律效应的原件。
英国人传统上是讲究诚信的，他警示了你提供虚假文件的严重后果，然后他就认为你不会这么做，他会首先相信你提供的文件真实性的。比如我提供了房产证，但我贷款没还完，房产证还在银行抵押着呢，我提供的当然只能是复印件，但这肯定不会影响到对我资产的证明。其它的如学位证职称证什么的其实都可以不交原件，你交了只是会感觉更保险一些，心理安慰而已。
该准备哪些材料。移民网站说得太笼统，不像法国签证直接有个表格你给你对照到底要什么，所以只能自己看着办准备，那么原则是能准备的就都准备上。当然，没太大关系的就没必要准备，概括地讲，这些材料应当满足三点要求：足以支撑你这次访问目的；证明你是高富帅白富美不会过去要饭或打黑工；证明你没有移民倾向。充分证明这三点就足够了。
证明访问目的的文件有：邀请函当然是必须的，而且一定要写明“Academic visitor”身份，符合之前说的要求；你的在职证明、回聘证明、职称证、毕业证、学位证、教师资格证之类，证明你是个高档次学者而不是工人。
证明你是高富帅白富美的文件有：收入证明（可能跟在职证明、回聘证明合开到一起了），工资流水（证明你月月有工资不是坐吃山空），存款证明（带家属时才要，全家15~20万足够，自己一个人签就不需要了，注意存款的冻结结束日要在你递签时还没过期）。
证明你没有移民倾向的文件有：如果你一个人签证，那么你的结婚证证明你配偶还在国内你跑不了；如果全家签证就要小心，最好你和配偶都有单位的回聘证明，小孩有学校的接收证明，还有房产汽车之类不动产大件你带不走，这些约束或者你留恋的东西越多，你的移民倾向自然就越弱。
准备的材料列表：
最新的递签要求中，照片只需要一张，贴到在线申请确认后打印出来的申请表中。全家递签的话，最后所有材料会被装进一个袋子，所以材料都会被共享，也就是只需要一份。例如，原本配偶中要有存款证明及其复印件，小孩的也要有，但当一起申请时只需要一份就行了。
关于复印件，主要是留档用，如果你哪个文件本来也不要了，比如照会，本身就是给大使馆的信，那就不用复印件。
主申请人材料：
