I’m sorry you have found yourself in such a dilemma when your best friend offered you
a cigarette. It is wise for you to refuse her offer by explaining reasons to her.
Firstly, your friend may be unaware of the harmful effects of smoking. It not only
pollutes the air, but also does terrible damage to smokers’ lungs, which means the growing risk of developing cancer. Those who become physically and mentally addicted to nicotine tend to become breathless easily. That is why you will not begin smoking to suit her. Secondly, tell your friend it makes no sense to strengthen your friendship by accepting her offer. Friendship has nothing to do with each other’s choice. You remain good friends despite your disagreements on smoking.
Don’t be upset. I do hope my advice will work out well with you.
Good luck and best wishes!

W: So which mobile phone are you buying with your birthday money, Joe?
M: The Vox 55. It’s lovely but I have to ask my parents for thirty pounds. It costs seventy-five. (Text 2)
M: Why can’t you come to the gym today? W: I’ve got to meet my mum in town. M: Is she taking you shopping?
W: Actually I’ve got a toothache and Mum’s coming with me to the dentist.
(Text 3)
M: Excuse me. I’m looking for 115 Washington Street. W: Well this is 120, so it’s not far from here.
M: Thanks. So many buildings around here don’t have numbers. (Text 4)
M: The new T-shirts should arrive today. If I’m pleased with the quality, I think I’ll order fifty more.
W: Do we really need to order more?
M: With the yearly autumn sale starting next month, business should be on the rise. W: That’s true. (Text 5)
W: Would you like some wine in that, father?
M: Well, my doctor says I shouldn’t. But thank God my will is weak. (Text 6)
W: What about this jacket? It’s my favorite.
M: Yes, and it’s nice and warm. But it’s such a light yellow color, and it’ll get very dirty during your school trip. Why don’t you take your mother’s green one? It’s really comfortable and it’s got lots of pockets.
W: Yes, but it doesn’t fit me very well, as it’s too big. I’ll take the blue one. It is suitable though it’s a bit old. M: OK, if you prefer. (Text 7)
M: Hi, Julie! How was your day at the theme park last Sunday? Were there too many people? W: Yeah, but we didn’t mind too much because we were expecting that. At least we had sunny weather though. I know when you went, it rained all day!
M: Yeah. It was even worse with strong wind blowing! And what did you think of the food? W: Well, We had heard that the food there was terrible and expensive so we brought a packed lunch with us! But I saw some people drop litter. That’s what I can hardly stand. (Text 8)
W: Hi, Mr. Adams?
