On the Current Situation and Development of Non-governmental

Organizations in Guangzhou

Abstract:

Since reform and opening up were launched in China, non-governmental organizations have played an increasingly important role in national economic development and social affairs. Guangzhou is located in the forefront of reform and opening up, along with the rapid economic development, a host of social problems obsessed the government. To a certain extent, the activities of non-governmental organizations have assisted government to meet the diverse needs of citizens. Non-governmental organizations in Guangzhou have outstanding performance in such aspects as promoting economic development, using social resource reasonably, caring for the vulnerable groups and assuming public responsibility. However, their further development is also restricted by some other factors as system space, legal supervision, operating fund, social resource, social credibility, etc. To get the long-term development, non-governmental organizations in Guangzhou firstly should establish a good image of their own, set up social credibility, promote the comprehensive development of society actively in addition to breaking through those restrictive factors.
