When reading a food’s label(标签), start at the top. The package(包装) may look small, but be careful to determine how many servings it contains. Compare the serving size with how much you are planning to eat.

Limit This! These are things you should limit in your diet. American diet includes too much fat, cholesterol(胆固醇), and sodium(钠). They are linked to health problems when eaten too much.

Eat This! Dietary fiber is a nutrient(营养物质) that most Americans do not eat enough of each day. Eating foods rich in fiber is good for us to improved health and lowered risk of diseases.

Calories(卡路里) tell you how much energy you get from a serving of food. People who are more active need more calories. People who take part in less physical activity need fewer calories.

Erin and Caleb Funk now live in Toledo, Ohio, and have a 16-year-old son, a grade three high school student, who has already decided to study in a vocational(职业的) school for this school year. The idea that their son might get into a vocational school worried the Funks at first.

“Vocational schools seemed to be prepared for people who weren’t making it in ‘real’ schools, so we weren’t completely sure whether we should support our son attending(参加) one,” Erin says.

Both Erin and Caleb worked hard to be the first in their families to get college degrees(学位) and wanted the same chance for their three children. After touring the video -production - design program at Penta Career Center, however, they could see the future for their son. Although they worried a lot at the beginning, after learning more about the program and seeing how excited their son was about it, they threw their support behind his decision.

But not everyone in the Funks’ lives understands this decision. Erin says, “When I mentioned it to a friend recently that my eldest son had decided to go to the vocational -technical school in our city, she said immediately, ‘Oh, is he having problems at school?’ There is an attitude out there that the only reason you would go to a vo-tech is that you have some kind of problems at a traditional school.”

But their son has a 3.95 GPA, a very good score. He was just more interested in the program at
