M: Well, your supervisor told me you’re turning your reports in 2 to 3 days late, you’re often absent from staff meetings, and you haven’t been getting along with your colleagues. W: Look, Mr. Travers, I can explain.

M: Ms. Robertson, I know you have been with us for a while now, but this business is changing fast. We need people who can keep up and work as a team.

W: Mr. Travers, my mother was just diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve been spending all my time outside of work at the hospital with her, and I even had to leave work early because she went into emergency surgery and I had to sign some paper. I’ve been so exhausted, and then Morrison from accounting made a joke the other day about cancer victims losing their hair and… M: Oh…I had no idea, Ms. Robertson.

W: I know my work has suffered these past few weeks, but I promise I will make up for it!

M: Listen, why don’t you take a couple of days off? It’s much more important that you be with your mother while she is recovering.

W: Really, sir? Thank you so much!

M: My pleasure. And I’ll have a word with Morrison. That kind of talk has no place in this office! Text 10

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to present the first meeting of the Woodyille Lunch for Senior Citizens. We all hope that this will be a great success and there will be more to come. I am extremely pleased that so many of you are able to be here today and I give a warm welcome to you all. I would like to say a particularly warm welcome to Joan Miller, who is ninety-four years young today. I’m sure that you will all me join me in wishing Joan a very happy birthday.

The aim of the club is, of course, not only to provide food, but also to provide companionship although it is extremely important that people of all ages at nutritious food, and I an tell you now that it is delicious! I have already tasted it. However, the club exists not only to provide food and I’m sure that many of you would like to stay on after the lunch things have been cleared away so that you can have a chat. Today, we’re not in a hurry so that you can get to know each other. Indeed, I hope that will be the case because that will show that you are all enjoying yourselves and that is the main point of this club. Have fun!
