Life on the land probably began about 430 million years ago, though it has existed in the water for perhaps as much as 3,000 million years. When we think of the first thing on land, we probably think of strange animals coming out of the oceans, but in fact no animals could have been living if plants had not been on land first. Plants had to be on land before animals arrived. They supplied the first land animals with the surroundings and food necessity, since they, the plants, are the only form of life that is able to get and store energy.

The first plants to exist out of water were probably certain kinds of algae(藻类) which were followed by other plants that grew close to th ground and needed water in which to reproduce(繁殖). Once the move to land had been made, however, evolution took place quickly. By the end of 100 million years, plants had developed their roots, and some had got tree-like forms since height was very important in gaining sunlight. About 300 million years ago, much of the world was covered with forests of huge trees. In most ways, they were like modern trees. They had roots, leaves, wood, but mostly they had not developed seeds. 65. The main idea of the first paragraph is ________. A. life on land probably began 430 years ago. When several different people look at the same person, it is not unusual for each of them to see different things; when you alone observe one behavior or one person at two different times, you may see different things. The following are about some of the factors that lead to these different senses.

⑴ Each person’s senses of others are formed by his or her own background, cultural condition, education, personal experiences, and even people around him or her.

⑵ Sometimes senses differ because of what we choose to observe and how we deal with what we’ve observed. It is not necessarily true that person sense is based on observations of a particular person.

Your observations may be totally controlled by what others have told you about this person; or you may center mainly on the situation or role relationship. Most people do not use the same standard to measure their parents, their friends, and strangers.

⑶ Some times we see only what we want to see or don’t see what may be obvious to others because of our own needs, desires, or temporary emotional states. This is a process known as selective sense. Selective sense is obviously more difficult when stimulus information is particularly obvious, but it can be done. We can have none of this opposite information “He’s basically a good boy so what I

saw was not shoplifting.” We can reduce the importance of the opposite information.” All kids get into naughty behavior. Taking a book from bookstore isn’t such a big deal.” We can change the meaning of the opposite information” It wasn’t shoplifting because he was going to pay for it later.”

With only three weeks to go before Christmas, buying presents is a high priority(优先权) for a lot of people. However, this year not so many people are leaving their homes to browse around the shops. These days lots of people can do their shopping in the comfort of their own home with the help of the internet.

Shopping online is becoming more and more popular for a number of reasons; prices are often lower online, you don’t have to queue up in busy shops and you can buy almost any product imaginable with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Computer trends are often male-dominated(受控的) but this year women are expected to do more shopping on the internet than men. It seems women are now more attracted to the convenience of online shopping than they used to be.

Average spending online this Christmas by women will rise to £240 (3350 Yuan)compared to the slightly lower average of £233 for men, while the average spend per person on the high street is only £197.70% of internet users, male and female, are now buying their Christmas gifts online.

In the past a lot of people were reluctant(难看到的)to shop online. Many were worried about the security of entering their card details on the internet and the reliability of the internet but as shopping online has become more widespread, these worries have begun to disappear. 45% of internet users still do have security worries but it hasn’t slowed down the ever-increasing numbers of online shoppers.

One victim of the online shopping boom(繁荣) is the UK high street. Christmas trading can represent up to 60% of turnover(营业额) for some stores. Many companies are concerned that, not enough shoppers are coming through their doors in the run-up to Christmas. As a result there are lots of special offers(特价优待) in the shops.

Most shops traditionally have sales after Christmas but this year the bargains have come early in an attempt to attract consumers to spend. Bad news for the high street has become good news for the bank balances(结算)of UK shoppers this Christmas!
