14、Many young people all over the world love to travel and see the world. Have you heard of backpackers? They are normally young people who travel cheaply with just one bag and comfortable walking boots. They buy local food in supermarkets to save money and at the same time become friends with local people. Some people prefer adventure tours. Brave people may try bungee(蹦极) jumping from the bridge overlooking the Victoria Falls in Africa with only a rope around their legs. Some enjoy the challenge of rock climbing in the Alps in Switzerland. Others may go ice skiing in the Rocky Mountains in the USA. Have you ever heard of an ecotourism (生态旅游)? It means a holiday in which people come close to nature but are very careful not to destroy the nature beauty or living things in the area. How can this be possible? Let's read an interview with people who enjoyed a swimming with dolphins tour. Interviewer what was the most exciting part of your holiday?

Sharon from South Africa I felt excited when I heard the sound of wild dolphins beside me in the water and then swimming directly under me. An image I will never forget.

Xavier from Portugal There were two dolphins below us swimming downwards. One stopped and looked back at me as if to say “What are those strange things?” Fantastic!

Interviewer Did you feel that your holiday helped local people and areas to keep their beautiful environment?

15、The last Monday in March is an important day in China. It is a day for school safety education. This year, the day falls on March 25. It helps students learn more about safety and make sure they are safe. What are some accidents at school? How can you keep yourself safe? Take a look! A stampede always happens in crowded places. When students around you begin to push, stand there and try to hold onto something. If you fall down in the crowd, put your hands around your head. Move to one side, and bend(弯) your body and legs.

Earthquakes happen all over the world. When you feel everything is moving, quickly get under a desk and

hold on, according to China Earthquake Administration(地震局). If you are outdoors, find a place away from buildings, trees, and power lines(电线).

Scott Joplin is now considered to be the most important American ragtime composer and piano player. During his lifetime, Joplin only enjoyed a short period of career success in the early 1900s. However, his work had an important, lasting effect on music-lovers, as well as other composers.

When ragtime first appeared in the late nineteenth century, it was considered a low form of cheap entertainment, not a serious musical movement. Then in 1899, Joplin wrote a ragtime song called Maple Leaf Rag. The song showed Joplin’s creative mix of African. American rhythm and more accepted European American musical styles. It was a huge success and helped to make ragtime popular with the general public. Maple Leaf Rag was the first instrumental work to sell over one million copies of sheet music (乐谱). It was also the first music by an African American to find a large number of fans among European Americans.

Although the general ragtime style already appeared for a long time before Joplin began composing, his work attracted a lot of attention from other ragtime composers of his time. Songs like Maple Leaf Rag
