How to DIY Your Own Mask

During the outbreak of COVID-19, one of the must-have items is the mask. However, many countries are in bad need of medical masks and other protective equipment. 16. But we can make our own masks which can be used repeatedly. Now, let’s look at the most popular DIY method for soda bottle gas masks.

17. And it doesn’t require huge skills. With necessary materials and a little training, it can be made in 15 minutes.

To make such a mask project, you’ll require a sharp cutting tool, a market, glue, a 2-liter soda bottle, rubberized foam insulation strip (泡沫橡胶绝缘条) and one N95 mask. Total cost may be $5.

First, you’ll have to clean the 2-liter plastic bottle. After that, draw a U-shaped area using the marker. 18. Then start with a smaller cut and work your way up from there. Cut away the bottom of the bottle and you’ll end up with a basic shape.

Next, use the rubberized foam insulation as a seal for the edges of the bottle. 19. This will serve as a resting place for the N95 mask. Then cut off the N95 mask’s edging carefully. And place is inside the neck of the bottle. The elastic bands (橡皮筋) from the N95 mask will be used to secure the gas mask firmly on your face. Then a DIY gas mask is completed.

Do remember to keep the gas mask stored in a well sealed plastic bag. 20. A. In this way you can make good use of the bag. B. This can prevent it from getting polluted. C. Are you a bookworm? Is your head permanently stuck in a book? 16. There are many benefits to reading. Getting into a good novel improves our literacy. But who or what encourages us to pick up a book and start reading?

Of course, when we are young, our parents and teachers inspire us by introducing us to characters that we love or hate. As a child, I loved books written by Roald Dahl, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits. 17. They are popular with children even today, despite competition from contemporary authors.

One modern-day children's author is J. K. Rowling, who's known for her books about the wizard, Harry Potter. 18. The UK's National Literacy Trust awarded her the title for “turning a generation of children into readers”.

19. It can also help people in difficult circumstances. The author Pat Winslow worked as a writer in prisons and found reading and discussing stories helped prisoners reflect on their patterns of behavior. She says, “very often we would have discussions about the moral compass of a character. What was the motivation of somebody? Why did they behave that way?”

Today I like to read factual books such as biographies, where you get an insight into the lives of important and well-known people. I also enjoy looking at travel books and learning about journeys and new destinations. 20. But the main benefit of reading is the improvement it brings to our literacy. The more we do it, the better we get and who knows—one day you may become the next Tolstoy, Jackie Collins or even William Shakespeare. A. If so, that's a good thing for you.

B. It's a good substitute if you can't visit in person. C. Good writing can really capture our imagination. D. Reading books is more than an enjoyable leisure time.

7

E.These fictional stories were funny, twisted and slightly evil. F.Who are your favorite authors and which are your favorite books? G.She was named as a “literacy hero” for improving people's love of reading.

A. If so, that's a good thing for you. E空格后一句,出现代词“They”说明空格处也应该是复数而且空格前一句“I loved books written by Roald Dahl, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits.”

19. D空格后一句话是“It can also help people in difficult circumstances.”
