New York City streets are full of yellow cabs. Some, however, are better than others. Now, there is a Candy Cab waiting for you. It is a free candy store on wheels. Mansoor Khalid, a taxi driver ,started handing out candy in 2012 following the death of his one-year-old son. While his son was in hospital, Mansoor often took coffee and sweets for the nurses and saw how happy they were.

Wanting to feel some joy again he began putting a box of candy on the passenger seats, just to seetheri happy face. There was more and more candy, because Mansoor Khalid realized that the sweet treats made everyone smile and “Candy Cab” was born! Imagine walking to your local park on a warm summer afternoon and sitting down under a tree with a good book and a freshly picked apple. That is exactly what the clever minds behind Seattle’s Beacon Food Forest Project are hoping to do for all its residents(居民)in the near future.

The project is just 2.5 miles from the center of Seattle, close to the city’s popular Jefferson Park. It was started in February, 2012 and is being developed on seven acres(英亩)of land. Using $100,000 from the US government, hundreds of volunteers are working hard, developing the first two acres of the food forest. So far, the park that will be open to the public later this summer is home to 35 trees. They are expected to start producing fruits next year. The volunteers have also completed a large amount of decoration work to make the park more attractive.
